Brent Marshall – Event Director

Brent is a full time Advertising Consultant for MediaWorks Taupo. His career in the radio industry spans more than 20 years with stints in Southland and for the past eight years in the Taupo region. Throughout this time Brent has been responsible for generating more than ten million dollars in sales for the company and has achieved not only number one sales consultant status for both regions, but he has also made the finals three times at the NZ Radio Awards for his contribution to both sales and promotions.

Brent’s strengths lie in his ability to think outside the square, enjoying a challenge and his belief that “if it can’t be done, it’s not worth doing.”

Brent’s promotional success to date has been his “Out Casted While I Was Plastered” promotion which raised over $30,000 for charity. Also of note, his More FM Luncheons which featured Nick Farr Jones, Greg Murphy, Graeme Henry, Steve Hanson, Peter Leitch (Mad Butcher) and Ricki Herbert. More than 1500 people attended resulting in over $25,000 been raised for charity.

However it wasn’t until December 2009 that Brent took on his biggest challenge to date when he pieced together, coordinated, sold the sponsorship and choreographed the Zero Risk King of the Ring Charity Boxing Event which hosted nearly 2000 people to a black tie, five-hour show of entertainment, resulting in $100,000 being raised for local charity.

From this Brent went on to do Taupo’s Biggest Loser promotion in 2010 which resulted in 144 people losing a ton of weight, raising a further $60,000 for local charities.

At short notice, Brent also put together Taupo’s Pike River Vigil which saw more than 1500 people from the community come together and pay their respects to the 29 miners who lost their lives in Greymouth. This promotion raised another $9,000 for the families of those miners.

Showing his continued support, Brent went on to support another big event by hosting nearly 500 people at the Sharks v Warriors Rugby League game.

Brent then put together New Zealand’s biggest buy local campaign called “Fill Ya Fridge” that saw over $112,000 worth of groceries and prizes given away over the year to local families who supported local businesses here in the Taupo community.

In December 2011 Brent rolled out the second sell-out Zero Risk King Of The Ring event in Taupo with a goal in- mind to better the $100,000 that was raised in 09, not only did he smash this figure he raised the amount to a whopping $225,000 making it one of the biggest charity boxing events in the country for money raised for charity in a single night.

Two weeks after the second boxing event Brent brought to town Taupo first ever ice skating experience which also happened to be the country’s first summer outdoor Ice Skating Rink, The Chateau Tongariro Hotel Ice Rink was a run-away success that saw over 20,000 people take to the Ice while it was open.

Since then, the third Zero Risk King of the Ring event in December 2013 has added further to the fundraising tally, with a sell out crowd and a spectacular live concert from Killer Queen!  That was followed by Harcourts Real Estate Ice Rink in 2014 and the 4th Zero Risk King of the Ring event in December 2015 which alone raised over $400,000.

We’ve now raised more than $1m for local charities… and Brent continues to look for new event ideas to help raise further funds to support Taupo.
