Smiles from first group of 100% Lake Taupo Charitable Trust grant recipients

19 November 2014

Today the Trustees of the 100% Lake Taupo Charitable Trust issued $19.940.50 of grants to fourteen local groups and organisations.

The Trust, formerly known as King of the Ring Trust, have been steadily building reserve funds with the intent of making regular grant allocations to well deserving local groups.

“We received 34 applications seeking a total of $77,633 in funding in our September grant round,” said Trust Chairman, David Steele. “We only had $20,000 to distribute so the Trustees had some serious deliberations when we met in late October and reviewed the applications.”

“The standard of applicants, and the projects and programmes seeking funding were incredibly high,” said David. “We selected fourteen applicants to receive a grant, primarily those who presented a strong synergy with the Trust objectives, and/or had not previously received a grant from King of the Ring or 100% Lake Taupo Charitable Trust.”

The grant recipients gathered at the BNZ Partners Centre in Taupo on Wednesday to receive their cheques and meet the other beneficiaries.

Guests were also treated to a heartfelt waiata from Te Kohanga Reo a Papakai who were grateful to receive the funding required to purchase new child safety seats for the Kohanga Van, and a brief performance from the Taupo Intermediate Kapa Haka group who received funding to help them purchase a new piupiu for the group.

The Trust’s next funding round will open in March 2015.
